Abstract
The article deals with the conceptual pedagogical ideas of Vasyl Oleksandrovych Sukhomlynskyi and his advice on teaching and upbringing of children. It is shown that the famous teacher studied and implemented the experience of foreign colleagues, in particular the representative of Waldorf pedagogy Rudolf Steiner, into the practical activities of the school entrusted to him. It is revealed that the educational process of the Pavlyshchyna School included such types of work with children as observation, live experience, research, and the use of fairy tales as a lively and imaginative way of exploring the world. It is established that the fundamental principles of education in Vasyl Sukhomlynsky's school were love for children and love for the native land. It is found that the most subtle education, according to the Pavlysh teacher, is to provide freedom and assistance to the child, avoiding coercion and prohibitions. The author emphasises that the teacher’s task is to teach a child to look not only at the world around him or her (macrocosm), but also at oneself, to cultivate in the child a desire to learn things and phenomena not only of the world around him or her, but also of his or her own inner world (microcosm). The author focuses on the fact that an essential feature of childhood is a child’s cognition of the world through cognition of himself, through his emotions, feelings, and experiences. It is substantiated that the distinctive feature of an adult and a child is that a child cognises the world with the heart, and an adult perceives the world with the mind. The article shows that in the process of upbringing, the famous teacher attached great importance to fantasy in the life of a child. In his opinion, fantasy contributes to the development of a child's creative thinking and helps to make the transition from the sensual to the rational. It is revealed that fantasy is a child's creation of his or her own reality, his or her life experience. It has been established that during childhood, a person needs the greatest protection and care from adults, and this can be provided primarily by the family, the family in which the child grows up and is brought up, and only then - by preschool and school institutions.
