Abstract

Artistic texts studied at school form the basis of a person's background knowledge. Hence the relevance and importance of forming a reading circle for schoolchildren. The content component of the new course "Foreign Literature" in grades 7-9 (Snegiryova et al., 2023, p. 3-6) was selected taking into account the age-related psychology of adolescents, their reading interests, and the peculiarities of the perception of literary texts and was structured on the basis of genre (grade 7 ), a combination of historical-chronological and problem-thematic principles (8-9 grades). The list includes folklore and works of art that raise the eternal problems of good and evil, love and compassion, dignity and humanity, beauty in nature and human life.
