Abstract

Emphasis is placed on the reflection in a wide range of scientific works of O. Ya. Savchenko of basic values, which are important to form in younger schoolchildren by means of reading activities. Attention is drawn to the scientist's emphasis on the development of younger schoolchildren's emotional and valuable perception of works of literature as the ability to empathize, understand and evaluate the social and personal significance of artistic images. Within the context of the works selected for textbooks for students, increased attention was paid to the transmission of the following universal and national values: understanding of the universal value of language, books, and reading; friendship, relationships with peers, relationships with living nature; civic values: love, patriotic feelings for the Motherland, native land, self-awareness as a citizen of Ukraine, etc.
