Abstract
As one of the most important features of an addictive personality, many experts single out the phenomenon of a kind of addictive splitting. At the phenomenological level, splitting means the simultaneous existence of two incompatible mental gestalts, which at the conscious level do not come into conflict, but at the same time create high mental tension and an ambivalent motivational state. A classic example of the manifestation of addictive splitting is the simultaneous existence of two incompatible motives to stay sober and return to use, which creates a kind of ambivalent motivation for addicts. The model of addictive splitting, explicitly and implicitly, is widely used in psychotherapy and psychological counseling of addicts. In psychotherapy, based on the model of addictive splitting, work is built on the integration of these two parts into a single whole, most often with the use of various expressive techniques: isotherapy (drawing these two subpersonalities), drama therapy (playing out a dialogue between the addictive and normative subpersonality), hypnotherapy (visualization techniques in Erikson's hypnosis upon the meeting of the addictive self and the normative self) etc.
