Abstract
The article deals with the content of the special seminar “Educating a Citizen” for future primary school teachers that has the following tasks: to promote the deepening of future primary school teachers’ knowledge about the civic education of primary school students; to characterize the key competencies for the New Ukrainian School; to reveal the peculiarities of civic education among primary school students in extracurricular activities; to acquaint students with the methodology of diagnostics the levels of civic education among primary school students; to deepen of future primary school teachers’ knowledge on the forms and methods of civic education of primary school students; to acquaint students with the technology of optimizing the interaction between family and school regarding civic education among primary school students. Theoretical methods were used to develop the classes of the special seminar “Educating a Citizen” for future primary school teachers, namely: analysis and systematization of scientific literature on the research problem; synthesis, comparison, generalization, and classification. During the special seminar, a series of educational activities were held, such as lectures (“Problems of Civic Education in the History of Pedagogical ThoughtЄ, “The Purpose and Main Components of the Concept «New Ukrainian School» in the Context of the Problem of Civic Education of Children and Youth“,“Forms and Methods of Civic Education of Primary School StudentsЄ); creative project “Citizenship as a Psychological Phenomenon”; round table “Features of Civic Education of Primary School Students in Extracurricular Activities”; seminars-workshops (“Methodology for Diagnostics the Levels of Civic Education of Primary School Students”, “Interaction between School and Family in Civic Education of Primary School Students”). The research does not cover all aspects of the multifaceted problem of training future primary school teachers for civic education of primary school students. Further scientific research can improve the effectiveness of teaching staff's postgraduate education on this issue. The article will be useful for future primary school teachers, teachers of pedagogical disciplines of institutions of higher education, scholars, post-graduate students, and those who are interested in the problems of educating youth.
