Abstract
In the report made at the methodological seminar of the NAES of Ukraine "Actual problems of protecting the mental health of the Ukrainian people in wartime and postwar times" on November 16, 2023 in Kyiv, notes the acute urgency of the problem of psychological support and, at the same time, the unsatisfactory state of its solution, which illustrated by the small number of psychologists in the field of mental health in Ukraine, compared to other countries, and psychiatric orientation, that is, the focus is not on maintaining mental health, but mainly on the treatment of mental disorders. The dynamics and factors of the actualization of the problem in the most vulnerable categories of the population with the beginning of the armed russian aggression against Ukraine in 2014 and until now are described, its predictive assessments are given, including scale of the risk of PTSD spread. Negative trends in the field of mental health care, such as "psychological paramedicism", lack of psychological competence, low level of awareness about psychological care, lack of a register of specialists, quality and performance control system, scientific forecast of personnel potential, etc., are noted. Some systemic problems of psychological work in the Security and Defense Sector of Ukraine, psychological support of combatants in units of the Security and Defense Forces & the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in particular, are pointed out. The currently available state programs of mental health, psychological support and the system of training psychologists are analyzed, specific steps and measures of the national policy are proposed to correct their shortcomings and miscalculations in order to protect against a national tragedy in the field of mental health in Ukraine.
