Abstract

The abstracts of the report delivered at the plenary session of the 20th anniversary of the International interdisciplinary scientific and practical conference "Art Therapy Space: The art of mental health restoring during war" on March 31, 2023 in the city of Kyiv, describe the experience of the Kyiv playback theatre "Deja vu plus", obtained at 5 performances for active military personnel in the period from July 2022 to February 2023. The leading themes (real experiences and problems) of the personnel, actualized and staged at playback events are marked: fear of future combat, acceptance and rejection military roles, adaptation to service conditions, motivation to serve and fight, the strength of our unity, experiencing the loss of loved ones, longing for relatives, fears about returning to civilian life. The specifics of the playback theatre in working with combatants are almost not detected, which shows, on the one hand, the universality of the ritual (theatre technology), on the other hand, the unity and integrity of the army and the people of Ukraine. Some potentially useful functions of the playback theatre for the military are described, while the two-sided risk of such work is noted: to go beyond one’s own values and to harm the servicemen themselves. Conditions for preventing these risks are proposed, which require additional experience, research and analysis, in particular: sincere determination of the playback team regarding humanistic values and justice, correlation of the influence of the playback theatre with the principles of psychological recovery of NATO, military protocols of rapid psychological aid, etc.
