Abstract

The article is dedicated to the examination of the essence of family values, their significance for proper family functioning, highlighting changes in family values, and defining a system of family values that can serve as a guide in educational work with students in preparing them for future family life. It has been established that family values reflect the peculiarities of family functioning at a certain stage of social development and therefore undergo constant changes together with the family. This necessitates the identification of traditional (based on the perception of the family as a stable phenomenon) and transformed (the family is considered in terms of conformity to new social processes) family values. Various research approaches to interpreting the essence of family values and evaluating traditional and transformed family values regarding their impact on the strength and peculiarities of family functioning in modern social conditions have been analyzed. Based on the analysis of scientific approaches, family values are defined as a system of ideas about the family that reflects the significance of the family as a social phenomenon (social institution, small social group) that ensures the physical reproduction and cultural heritage of society and meets the individual's needs for protection, emotional and material support, spiritual communication, and self-realization. A system of family values is proposed that is based on the functions of the family, its conformity to reflect the needs of all family members, taking into account family realities. These are family values such as the value of love, which reflects a deep emotional connection between family members, first and foremost between spouses; the value of parenthood (a set of positive attitudes, beliefs and expectations of the individual as a parent, parental feelings, acquisition of pedagogical competence); the values of family social and psychological harmony (care, mutual support, respect, communication, etc.); the values of the organizational and material functioning of the family (diligence, material security, activity). The defined system of family values can be used in educational work with students in the process of involving students in family values, preparing for family life, taking into account the positions of young people regarding the functioning of the family.
