Abstract
The article contains review materials of research results in the field of library and information sphere using bibliometric methods. Evolutionary changes in the meaning of the term “bibliometrics” and features of its use in modern digital scientific communications are traced. It has been established that the information and search capabilities of the digital library and the bibliographic and full-text database of research in the field of education ERIC provide an opportunity to conduct an extended and step-bystep search using built-in bibliometric search tools for information analysis, the research directions of the researchers of the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Canada, South Korea, Pakistan, India, Peru, USA, Australia, New Zealand are defined. Research directions are defined. It is noted that the publications selected for review have a similar thematic orientation, despite the wide range of bibliometric tools presented in the published research materials. The presented articles provide an opportunity to establish promising directions in the activities of academic libraries and information centers using bibliometric methods. Particular attention is paid to the coverage of the following issues: discussion of the problem of professional training of librarians in the field of bibliometrics, study of librarians’ views on the importance and role of bibliometrics in their work. The research results confirm the active participation of scientific libraries in the process of providing scientific research, in particular, bibliometric surveys and the provision of bibliometric services. It should be taken into account the fact that the vast majority of publications on the specified problem constantly emphasize the existence of gaps in the organization of bibliometric activities in libraries and the existing level of competence of librarians in the field of bibliometrics.
