Abstract

The article deals with the modeling of the structure of the "Ukrainian Electronic Encyclopedia of Education" and the consideration of its main components. The content of the Web of Science scientometrics database on the topic "electronic encyclopedia", "online encyclopedia", "e-encyclopedia", "web-oriented encyclopedia", "web-based encyclopedia" and "digital encyclopedia" was analyzed. 12 web-oriented encyclopedias in the fields of physics, ecology, astronomy, computer science, architecture, medicine, biology, genetics, art, culture, and education were selected and briefly reviewed. The main tasks for these editions' editors were software and hardware implementation, content, and organization of user interaction. Various approaches were used to create the web interface of encyclopedias sites: a) programming in PHP, Perl, Python, JavaScript, Linux, MySQL, b) use of a content management system (CMS) based on Zope software, c) deployment of an open-source platform for managing repositories of FEDORA digital objects, d) development of an open-source package for the R – Reol environment, which downloads data from the encyclopedia API, d) a semantic wiki portal, etc. The architecture of the "Ukrainian Electronic Encyclopedia of Education" consists of three levels: 1) server, 2) MediaWiki platform, and 3) public website. The MediaWiki platform provides editors with a wide range of functionality for working with the resource, including navigation, communication, search, and editing of encyclopedic content, as well as user account management by the collection of installed plugins. The development of the unique design of the encyclopedia was carried out using the WMAU design theme and subsequent editing of the software code. The system of user roles and access, navigation tools, page types, multimedia content, and functional modules are described.
