Abstract
The article substantiates the methodological principles of competency-based teaching of foreign language monologic speech in German for students of grades 7–9. It was determined that the main task of teaching monologic speech in these classes is to improve the skills and abilities of foreign language communication. It was found that teaching monologic speech, as a productive process, requires students to be able not only to describe and compare objects and phenomena, to talk about what they heard, saw, and read, but also to use elements of argumentation and reasoning. The communicative functions of monologic speech are characterized, the topics and requirements of current model curricula are analyzed, and the skills in monologic speech that students should demonstrate according to the results of their studies in grades 7–9 are outlined. It was found that monologic speech at this stage of learning is characterized by certain communicative, psychological and linguistic features that the teacher should actively take into account. The author proposed a set of exercises and tasks for teaching monologic speech in grades 7–9 of gymnasiums. The main concepts of the conducted research were tested by the author in his own pedagogical activity.
