Abstract
The article is devoted to the implementation of a competence-based approach to the study of the Ukrainian language in schools with teaching in the national minorities’ languages. Fluency in the state language is one of the key competencies that Ukrainian schoolchildren should master. Its components are knowledge of the language and speech, skills and abilities to use this knowledge in standard and non-standard situations, the students’ motivation to communicate in the Ukrainian language and their values. In speech activity, language knowledge and communicative practice exist in symbiosis, complementing each other, which actualizes functional and communicative-activity approaches to language teaching. The formation of competence in the state language should take place directly in the process of performing interesting activities for students. This makes it possible to simultaneously motivate children to study, harmoniously combine language learning and language acquisition, conduct a formative assessment of the level of students’ subject competence, as well as implement personality-oriented and culturological approaches to language learning, which are an obligatory component of the foundation of modern language teaching methods. Therefore, the competence-based approach to teaching the Ukrainian language as the state language in primary school should form Ukrainian-language communicative competence in combination with the conscious study of the language by students (at accessible level for them) and ensure the development of the secondary language personality of every one of them. It is obvious that this issue requires a thorough further study of its didactic and methodological components. The article presents the concept of forming the competence of proficiency in the state language in primary classes of general secondary education institutions with teaching in the national minorities’ languages, based on the coordination of purposeful conscious study of the Ukrainian language and communication practice in the context of educational and life situations, taking into account personality-oriented and culturological approaches to the formation of a student’s secondary language personality. Its pedagogical and psychological aspects are highlighted. The specifics of the implementation of this concept in primary education are considered and appropriate example of practical implementation is given.
