Abstract
The essence of the concept of "text complexity" in modern domestic and foreign literature is revealed on the basis of a conditionally accepted measure of the text readability index, which includes a number of quantitative and qualitative indicators, namely: the number of words in the text; the average number of syllables in a word; the average number of words in a sentence; sentence type; the presence of figurative words: metaphors, comparisons, nationally marked units; the amount of explicit and implicit information; narrative; complexity of syntactic constructions; lexical composition, in particular, the degree of saturation of the text with words unfamiliar to readers; concreteness/abstractness of words; cohesion or means of communication. The requirements for the selection of educational texts for younger schoolchildren are substantiated, taking into account the specified parameters of text readability, as well as the quality of polygraphic execution.
