Abstract
The methodological recommendations consider the theoretical foundations of the formation of oral communication skills and abilities of younger schoolchildren, in particular in listening and speaking, as well as offer specific practical exercises and tasks aimed at solving the specified problem. The system of exercises and tasks developed by the author is based on the principles of the competence approach to language learning. The work takes into account the results of a comparative analysis of the language systems of Ukrainian and the students' native language - Moldovan, Polish, Russian, Romanian or Hungarian. Methodological recommendations will be useful to practicing teachers, methodologists, teachers of higher education institutions, students of pedagogical and philological faculties, and all those who are interested in the issues of teaching Ukrainian as a state language.
