Abstract
The formation and development of intercultural foreign language communicative competence in schoolchildren is explicitly determined by modern transformations of the national system of general secondary education, notably the shift thereof to competence principles. Consequently, respective developments are required in the technology of implementing key competencies in classroom practice, specifically the ability to communicate in foreign languages. The topicality of mastering intercultural foreign language communicative competence by schoolchildren stipulates for the need to develop didactic tools capable of simulating the acts of communication prearranged by the aims of the educational process at institutions of general secondary education. Educational speech situations are deemed to be the tools able to engage the learners in foreign language speech activities that are personally meaningful. In this study, the author analyzed methodological and didactic concepts of the formation of intercultural foreign language communicative competence in the 5th-graders studying at institutions of general secondary education; outlined and consolidated the arrangements of application of educational and speech situations while elaborating situational communication topics presented in the model curriculum “Foreign Language grades 5-9” for institutions of general secondary education; reviewed the types of communicative tasks for the development of pupils’ aptitude for situational communication in English; presented the author’s vision of the best use of the proposed framework of educational and speech situations for individualization of the process of the formation and development of intercultural foreign language communicative competence in learners. Proceeding from the analysis of the activity, motivational, cognitive and emotional-and-evaluative aspects of the formation of intercultural foreign language communicative competence in the 5th graders, it is concluded that the implementation of the technology of situational foreign language teaching can significantly enrich the experience of effective communicative interaction of schoolchildren.
