Abstract
In the article, the authors note the relevance of the problem of forming the national consciousness of modern schoolchildren in the conditions of martial law, emphasizing the study of the ideas of patriotic education in the pedagogical heritage of Vasyl Oleksandrovich Sukhomlynskyi. The tasks of the article are to define and analyze the main ideas of patriotic education of an outstanding national teacher and writer; substantiation of the need to form the national consciousness of a modern child in a situation of uncertainty. The authors characterized the main sources from which love for the Motherland begins: the nature of the native land, the child’s family, the native village or city, the history that the pupil knows and is proud of. Attention is focused on the fact that patriotism should be effective, and not just in words, because actually active patriotism is a sign of the formation of national consciousness in a person. The main components of patriotism according to V. Sukhomlynskyi are defined: love, duty and loyalty, as well as the main methods and means of forming the national consciousness of modern schoolchildren (conversation, storytelling, book, fairy tale, own example of parents and teachers, knowledge of the history of their people and native region, love for the Ukrainian language, love for people, the desire to be needed and the desire to do good). It was concluded that the teacher educates a person in a child first of all with what he has in his soul - these are his own beliefs and feelings; patriotic education of youth will be effective when the teacher himself has developed patriotic feelings. Only under these conditions will modern schoolchildren appreciate the traditions and customs of the Ukrainian people, maintain the relationship between generations, strive for the development of their country, care for the flourishing of culture, and respect historical achievements.
