Abstract
In order to develop the teaching of scientific subjects on a competence basis, there is an urgent need to teach the teachers themselves to create competence-oriented tasks on their own, in accordance with the profession, educational needs and requests of students, etc. The experience of working in the Program of Advanced Training of Science Teachers within the Jean Monet Module, which has been held for the second year in a row at the Institute of Pedagogy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, allows us to make certain generalizations. Competence-oriented tasks are built around a problem situation of everyday life, which the heroes/heroines of the tasks have to solve, and unfold in a cluster of tasks. Also, the author of the task must make the transition from subject competences to key competences in the field of natural sciences, technology and technology, overcome "subject chauvinism".
