Abstract

The article is devoted to updating the content of the historical educational field in institutions of general secondary education. It is determined that the important factors of qualitative changes in school history programs are: the European integration vector of the development of our country, the need to oppose the “hybrid war” waged against Ukraine, in particular in the field of historical science and education, objective updating of historical science data, significant influence of the media on the consciousness of students, new approaches to the selection and structuring of the content of history courses at school in connection with the consistent introduction of the competence approach in the context of the implementation of the strategy of the New Ukrainian School and the State Standard of Basic Secondary Education. The analysis of modern sources of historiography, scientific-methodological studies, and normative documents proves that the actual priorities for the selection of the content of school history are the ideas of state formation, the formation of the Ukrainian political nation, the European dimension of teaching history, and the removal of the imperial-soviet historical narrative. It was determined that one of the ways to conceptually change school history education and prevent the Kremlin from appropriating updated Ukrainian history on the basis of its logical integration into the European context is to create integrated courses on the history of Ukraine and world history. Are revealed features of the innovative integrated course “Exploring history and society” for the 5th-6th grade, developed by a team of authors of the department of social science education of the Institute of Pedagogy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, which is based on thematic intra-branch and inter-branch integration. It is noted that the implementation of the updated content of school history courses for students of grades 6–11 requires a significant revision of existing textbooks, the development of appropriate educational and methodological support for facetoface and distance learning, the creation of the latest educational electronic resources, appropriate training of teachers for teaching new historical content, the involvement of scientists -historians for methodical assistance to teachers and creation of the necessary methodical support.
