Abstract
The article deals with the issue of the educational role of a father in family and reveals the main directions of preparation of young high school boys to perform the role of the father-educator. It is emphasized that in scientific works fatherhood is considered as a social institution and as an activity, practice, behaviour of fathering. Fatherhood as a social institution is expressed as a set of parental functions that have developed historically (father as a breadwinner, as a protector, as an educator). The authors focus on the changes taking place in the role of father in the current social period, which is manifested, in particular, in the emergence of a “new father” as a type of husband who not only takes responsibility for his family but also shares equally with his wife both domestic and child care responsibilities. The special role of the father in the development of the child’s personality is highlighted. It is noted that the practice of fatherhood is manifested primarily in the educational activities of the father, which requires educational knowledge and skills, development of emotional sphere, the desire to build relationships with the child and his or her mother according to humanistic principles. It is important to prepare young people for their father’s educational activities, especially high school boys. The main directions of preparation high school boys to perform the role of the parent-educator are determined as the following: pedagogical activities to provide young men with knowledge of the basics of family and fatherhood; the work of the educational institution with the parental families of high school boys to increase parental authority and ensure the proper influence of the family on children as future parents; orientation of high school boys for self-education, development of personality qualities that will help in the future to properly perform the role of the father. The main emphasis is put on the need for systematic pedagogical work to prepare high school boys for future fatherhood, implementing of special courses in the educational process, using a set of methods that promote students’ interest in future parenting (method of discussing specific situations of parent-child relationships; role-playing that is reflected in performing of different moments of communication between parent and child, the method of organizing communication with younger children, etc.).
