Abstract

The work highlights the process of reforming the content of general secondary education in Latvia. It is noted that new teaching standards have been developed for several subjects. In accordance with the reform of education based on the competence approach, new subjects were introduced into the school curriculum, namely: engineering sciences and drama, the modernized content of such subjects as history, computer science, sports and health, foreign languages. These changes that are taking place in school education in Latvia are aimed at strengthening the idea of ​​integrated learning (this is characteristic of primary education), at the acquisition of basic, key competencies by students. Another notable change introduced as part of the reform concerns the focus on values ​​that are fostered in the education process.
