Abstract
The article reveals the basic principles of modernization of the content of physics education in the context of reforming general secondary education in accordance with the concept of “New Ukrainian School”. The approval of the new State Standard of Basic Secondary Education marked the approaches to structuring the content and ways of its refl ection in the physics course of basic school. Modernization of the content of physics education requires a change in all components of the methodological system of teaching physics, appropriate didactic and methodological support for the organization of the educational process. This is manifested in clarifying the purpose of teaching physics, selection of basic physics knowledge and skills that implement a competency-based approach to learning, updated methods and forms of learning, the conditions of the educational process, updated methods of assessing learning outcomes. A holistic vision of such changes will allow realizing the competence potential of physics education in school teaching of physics, will outline the main tasks facing the methods of teaching physics and educational practice in the transition from the knowledge paradigm to the competency’s paradigm in education.
