Abstract

Mykola Yarmachenko Institute of Special Pedagogy and Psychology of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine is a leading research institution in the field of education of people with special needs, which determines the development strategy and provides scientific and theoretical, training and methodical support for its functioning. The main statutory tasks of the Institute are to conduct basic and applied research, implement state target programmes aimed at solving current theoretical, methodological and practical problems of preschool, general secondary, vocational and higher education of persons with special needs, as well as issues of special pedagogy, and special psychology as branches of science. The Institute provides scientific and methodical, training and methodical, and content support for preschool education institutions of compensatory type, special general secondary education institutions, inclusive education institutions of all levels, inclusive resource centres functioning; carries out preparation and certification of PhD and DSc students, and conducts in-service training for persons with higher education of different levels education institutions and establishments, etc. The results of research are reflected in numerous modern educational legislations and regulations, in particular in the Law of Ukraine “On Education” (Article 20), “Procedure for Inclusive Training in General Secondary Education Institutions”, “Regulations on the Inclusive and Resource Centre Functioning”, “Draft Procedure for Inclusive Training in Preschool Education Institutions”, etc.
