Abstract
The fighting in our country due to Russia’s military aggression has led to human losses, displacement, stress, and economic turmoil. Under their influence, almost all population segments are involved in the adaptive or maladaptive process. In today’s reality, our defenders, civilians and children are dying from the war, which has significant psychological consequences for all segments of the population, accompanied by various traumatic layers, increased anxiety, fears, frustration, confusion, maladaptation and others. During this challenging wartime, the staff of the Mykola Yarmachenko Institute of Special Pedagogy and Psychology of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine continues to work! Priority has been given to expanding the emergency care system and support for people going through the horrors of war. Providing psychological assistance to the population on a volunteer basis, the Institute’s specialists solve many tasks: provide support for victims of armed conflict; work with groups of displaced persons moving from the war zone (psychological assistance is provided, food, clothing, medicine); carry out a set of psychological and social measures aimed at prevention and rehabilitation work with persons participating in hostilities; carry out counselling and psychological, psycho-correctional, and psychotherapeutic work with children with special needs and their families; carry out preventive work on trauma and emotional burnout of children and adults who have received traumatic experiences during the war; develop educational and methodological support for the education, development and support of children with special educational needs. Along with this, an essential step of the Institute’s researchers in response to the needs of today was the understanding and generalisation of practical experience in developing modern technologies for rehabilitation, psychological and pedagogical support of persons under martial law.
