Abstract

In the article, based on the analysis of the scientific literature, the influence of peculiarities and the current situation for adult education in Greece is analyzed. /e modern adult education policy in Greece focuses primarily on the needs of adult learners, not on the needs of education providers; the conceptualization of lifelong learning as an active, continuous, involuntary process; it is holistic, offering opportunities for recognition and accreditation of informal and non-formal learning; supporting the country's development efforts by providing advanced training according to market needs, environmental priorities and innovation activities; support for the social integration of vulnerable groups; the goals of developing a personality as an active and conscious citizen, cultivating social and cultural behavior, according to new socioeconomic conditions. Possibilities opened up through the creative use of the progressive ideas of Greek experience are to reduce state interference and strengthen initiatives undertaken by community organizations and associations of adult educators.
