Abstract
The article highlights the results of structural and substantive analysis of the main strategic development vectors for scientific libraries of seven European universities: National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University, Vilnius University, Warsaw University and Jagiellonian University. The methods of system, structural and content analysis have been used in the research. The main strategic development directions of libraries, inherent in all objects of the research, are educational (documentary and informational quality of student learning, resource support of teaching), scientific (informational support for the researchers, assistance in managing research results), technological (introduction of new technological solutions, creation of favorable physical and virtual space, updating of material and technical base), partnership (cooperation with libraries, educational institutions, establishments and organizations of the public-private sector, international cooperation), professional (formation of environment for professional development of library staff). It has been found out that the general trend is the integration of strategies for the development of university libraries with the strategies of the universities themselves, focusing on ensuring and supporting their implementation. The library of a higher education institution is considered by researchers as an intellectual space, a complex scientific-informational and social-communication complex, a key information resource of the university, a full-fledged structure that participates in the modernization processes of the university, contributing to the quality of the research, the quality of support for the research activity, the quality of support for studying and teaching process. It has been emphasized that the strategies are built using both traditional and innovative approaches. The most progressive authors-developers of the analyzed strategic documents focus on the development of the library as a comfortable virtual environment and creative communication environment that stimulates the creation and implementation of innovations, active communication with the reader-client, supporting the concepts of Open Science and Open Education.
