Abstract
The article raises the issue of educational and methodological support of primary school at the stage of implementation of the new educational standard (2020) in the context of the ideas of competence and integrative approaches. The concept of the model curriculum "Foreign Literature. Grades 5–6 ”(adaptation cycle), developed by scientists of the Institute of Pedagogy of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, from the standpoint of implementation of the State Standard of Basic Secondary Education. The aim of the course is to develop competent speakers and readers with a humanistic worldview who speak Ukrainian, read, listen, analyze and interpret texts of classical and modern world literature and media texts for spiritual, cultural, national self-expression and intercultural dialogue; to enrich emotional and sensory experience, creative self-realization, formation of value orientations and attitudes. The model curriculum "Foreign Literature" contains sections "For reading and studying" and "For reading and discussion". Classical works of foreign literature are presented for reading and studying. Foreign prose of the second half of the XX - beginning of the XXI century is interesting and accessible for teenagers. in the best Ukrainian translations it is offered to the choice of teachers and students for reading and discussion. This conditional distribution of works involves the formation of reading experience of students, different levels of their reading competence and literary development, teaching readers who are able to navigate the diversity of modern fiction, choose a book to read, determine its artistic value. The content of the program consists of works that have the richest history of their interpretation in various arts and humanities. These are European fairy tales with wandering plots, literary tales and fairy tales (5th grade); myths of ancient Greece, biblical myths and parables, stories of foreign classics about childhood and dreams (6th grade), etc.
