Abstract
The theses substantiate that a modern textbook for studying the basic course of physics should include the study of empirical laws, the application of physical knowledge in real life situations. The modern basic course of physics requires increasing attention to the research approach, and in the requirements for learning outcomes, however, the emphasis should be shifted from solving computational problems to explaining physical phenomena based on existing theoretical knowledge (qualitative tasks). Strengthening the practical part of the basic course of physics (expanding the number of students' practical work) should provide motivation to study the subject, increase the number of students who choose physics as a profile subject.
