Abstract

The article presents the results of a study among pupils and teachers in ten regions of Ukraine conducted by the Center for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support of the National University «Kyiv-Mohyla Academy» during February – March 2021. An analysis of the problem of highlighting the specific ideas of teachers and pupils who have problems due to prolonged stress, the interaction with each other. The sample includes 100 teachers and 300 children from vulnerable groups, including: children from large families, children from veterans' families, children from low-income families, orphans and semi-orphans, children deprived of parental care, children from single-parent families, children with special needs, children from families of national minorities, internally displaced persons, children from antisocial families, children from families with difficult life circumstances. The presence of similar mutual negative perceptions of teachers and pupils, characterized by aggressive behavior, difficulty in establishing contact, conflict, negative experiences. Teachers explain their dissatisfaction with children, their inability to maintain friendly relations and inadequate behavior, while children try to avoid close contact with teachers, are afraid and do not trust them. This negatively affects the psychological climate in the classroom. Pupils and educators have found that they need to communicate more to make children feel more secure. It is recommended to introduce in-service training programs aimed at developing teachers' ability to establish contact with the child, to express emotional support to the child; such programs should include a component of prevention of emotional burnout of teachers and strengthening their psychosocial resilience. An example of such a program is «Safe Space», which combines both components and has proven effectiveness in practice.
