Abstract
The article outlines the understanding of historical memory as representative form of reality, which appears as a dynamic system of semantic patterns of the past to identify people and society as a whole. It is proved that a solidary view of the past of one's own people is a vital basis for uniting the people on the way to solving the problems facing the state. A number of problems that hinder the implementation of historical memory in the conditions of Ukrainian realities are revealed, the main imperatives of consolidation of Ukrainian society on the basis of a new vision of historical memory are determined.
