Abstract

The author of the article defines and interprets the didactic and methodological essence of the competence-oriented content of a school foreign language textbook, which presents an updated system of methods, forms and means of teaching foreign language communication. In accordance with current trends in school foreign language education, the main directions of textbook content transformation are considered, the factors influencing the selection of educational material, methods and forms of its presentation and activation are outlined, the system of exercises and tasks as a means of forming key and subject competences is substantiated.The author focused on the formation of students’ intercultural foreign language communicative competence as a subject, defined its essence, interpreted the content lines, which allows a clearer idea of the areas of educational activities aimed at mastering this competence.The methodical functions of learning and speech situations as a means of competence-oriented teaching foreign language communication are substantiated. The methodological expediency of the technology was determined by the results of an anonymous survey of foreign language teachers and methodologists conducted by the author. The questionnaire included questions that indicated the level of effectiveness for the components of the learning content, placed in the school textbooks. The results of empirical studies of this problem are presented. The main concepts of the proposed technology were used by the author during the construction of the updated content of Spanish textbooks for primary school and gave positive results.The next objects of the author’s research can be learning and speech situations as a means of developing creative and productive activities of gymnasium students and its impact on the competence-oriented content of teaching foreign language communication.
