Abstract
The article considers the history of creation, peculiarities of functioning and circumstances of destruction of one of the best in the world pedagogical practice of educational institutions for the deaf and dumb - Оleksandrivska school-khutir for the deaf (1903–1911). The role of the mayor of Oleksandrivsk (now the city of Zaporizhia) Felix Movchanovsky in the organization of this educational institution is covered. The main focus is on the description of the structure of the institution, the organization of the educational process and the preparation of students for future financial and household self-sufficiency. The main directions of the institution's self-presentation, thanks to which the Оleksandrivska school-khutir for the deaf became famous not only in the Russian Empire, but also abroad, are described.
