Abstract

It is shown that daydreaming is a natural psychological process that is characteristic of certain stages of overcoming traumatic experiences. It is assumed that purposeful activation of daydreaming (which is aimed at inventing positive scenario of events which have taken place in the past) can be used as a psychological technique in certain situations when there is a violation of the process of healthy experience of traumatic experience (with some manifestations of PTSD). A differentiation is made between the concept of "daydreaming" and related phenomena: confabulation and false memories. Prospects for further research are to study: 1) the relationship between the processes of daydreaming and the effectiveness of overcoming traumatic events; 2) criteria for the using of techniques to stimulate positive daydreaming about traumatic memories.
