Abstract

The article is devoted to the search for effective strategies of cooperation between the sign language translator and the teachers of higher educational establishments. Since the interaction of two key figures in the educational process contributes to the accessibility of people with hearing impairments to receive high quality and complete higher education, effective training of highly professional deaf professionals to work in various areas of human life in Ukraine. The existence of problems in the interaction between the educational translator of sign language and the teacher of a particular educational discipline in the educational process and ways to resolve them is revealed. Information is provided on the number of higher educational institutions of Ukraine in which deaf people study, and the number of educational translators providing sign language translation services. Based on this information, it becomes clear the need to increase the number of educational translators to meet the communication needs of deaf students and the need to train these professionals at the state level. Specifically, the workplace of a sign language translator is directly indicated in the classroom, which is of great importance for students with hearing impairments in terms of receiving their learning material through visual perception, and briefly lists the mistakes made by the teacher in determining the position of a sign language educational translator. It is determined that the strategies of cooperation between two key figures in the educational process: sign language translator and teacher - should be based on the appropriate role allocation: the instructor of the discipline is given the main role, and the educational translator – a secondary role. However, it is emphasized that the effective communication between the teacher and the deaf student depends on the level of sign language communication competence of the sign language educational interpreter. It was also noted in passing that an educational sign language translator, while providing gestural accompaniment to classes, should convey the true speech of the teacher, since deaf students may have a false idea of one standard speech inherent to the teachers of the educational institution. The role of a sign language translator is to familiarize deaf job seekers with the speech of different teachers, that is, the speech of the sign language translator of an educational institution should be a reflection of the speech of a particular teacher.
