Abstract

The EU motto "Unity in Diversity" symbolizes the significant contribution of language diversity and language learning in the European project. Languages unite people, make other countries and their cultures accessible and strengthen intercultural understanding. Knowledge of foreign languages plays a vital role in increasing employment opportunities and mobility. Multilingualism also increases the competitiveness of the EU economy.
