Abstract
Annotation. For the first time in the history of special pedagogy, the manual presents the creative heritage of Ukrainian scientists-defectologists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, who, through their activities, significantly influenced its development. A description of each person is given that reveals the results of long-term research into the specific features of the education and upbringing of children with special needs in their psychophysical development, which will help the reader to understand the peculiarities of the special school, contribute to the development of scientific and pedagogical thinking, the expansion of pedagogical outlook and general culture. The manual is addressed to students of higher educational establishments, teachers, employees of educational bodies and scientists.
