Abstract
The article reveals the relevance and feasibility of developing psychological support for families raising children with intellectual disabilities. We consider the problems faced by families and the causes of violations of their functioning. The features of the provision of psychological assistance to families raising children with intellectual disabilities are highlighted. The content of psychological support for families is revealed, the main areas of work (psychological study of families, psychological counseling for families, psychological, educational, and psychological correction work with children and parents) reveal the goals and objectives of these areas. Psychocorrectional mechanisms that contribute to the harmonization of families raising children and intellectual disabilities are considered. Prospects for further research in this direction are also indicated. Approach to a family that educates a child with intellectual disabilities regards it as a rehabilitation structure that has potential opportunities to create the most favorable conditions for the development and upbringing of the child. A positive attitude to a child with intellectual disabilities and the formation of an installation to take on its peculiarities allow parents to find new life sense, increase self-esteem, harmonize self-awareness and relationships with the child. The activation of the activities of parents and the formation in their minds of the need for assistance in the child is the main psycho-correction mechanism that promotes the harmonization of their psyche. In the process of conducting psychological measures, the knowledge of parents about the psychophysical features of the child is constantly expanding, their pedagogical competence, educational potential of the family increases. They also acquire practical skills that allow them to communicate with the child methodically and effectively take care of them.
