Abstract
The article analyzes the research of foreign and domestic scientists in the field of psychological development of children with intellectual disabilities. When classifying intellectual disorders, it is important to take into account not only the form of the clinical picture of mental retardation, but also its complex internal structure. The main causes and factors that lead to intellectual disabilities are highlighted. Violation of higher nervous activity, underdevelopment of mental processes are the cause of limited ideas about the world around us, the primitiveness of interests, the elementary needs and motives, the difficulty of forming relationships with others. These features are to some extent smoothed in the process of correctional training and education. The author of the article notes that children with intellectual disabilities from birth are in a state of intellectual deprivation, when information from the outside is perceived as distorted, distorted, processed and distorted, and, therefore, distorted and updated. Severe violations of the emotional-volitional sphere, cognitive activity, under development of mental processes prevent the full socialization of such children, the establishment of bilateral contact between the child and society, which in turn can not but affect the formation of self-awareness. Thus, it can be argued that this problem is relevant, because knowledge of the originality of the mental development of a child with intellectual disabilities helps to competently address issues of education and upbringing of children, to overcome or compensate for the disturbed mental areas.
