Abstract
The state of playback-theatrical practice in times of forced physical distance between people is described as a challenge even if high-quality group online video programs are available. The problematic nature of its transfer to a virtual format due to the need for direct communication and spontaneous stage creativity in the playback theater is shown. It is stated that a third of playback theatergoers in the world do not trust virtual formats, waiting for the quarantine restrictions to be lifted, and about a third try to combine traditional elements of playback action with virtual ones. There are three groups of related topics and practices, which borders the playback theatre, going online: 1) the topic of taking into account the specific emotional needs of the population in times of self-isolation, developed by psychologists, psychotherapists and playback theatre professionals; 2) component practices that reproduce in a virtual mode certain aspects, functions and/or principles of playback theatre, mainly in a detheatrical form; 3) practices of mixed format, when some components of playback theatre are sold online, but to a greater or lesser extent mixed with offline activities. In fact, playback theatre in the online format defines the complete transfer of all components and practices of playback theatre to the virtual space, which becomes not just another, albeit original platform for rehearsals and performances, but forces playback theatre to fully modify it. It is shown that such a modification needs to supplement and update the code of ethics and take into account many other aspects from all areas of playback theatre: technical, artistic and socio-psychological. A number of specific topical challenges and features of playback theatre in the online format are presented and problematized, the advantages are outlined, including the modification of some playback forms and techniques. In general, it is substantiated that, for all the problematizations found, playback theatre can go completely into an online format in which much is lost, in particular, the importance of the artistic component is reduced and the art therapeutic effect is transformed. But there are opportunities for full reproduction, albeit in a modified form, of its basic components – sociopsychological, technological and artistic.
