Abstract
The article is devoted to the peculiarities of the purposeful use of the art of theater and drama in modern psychotherapeutic practices, which has become quite popular and in demand in recent decades. It is shown that the use of theatrical and dramatic means in psychotherapy can be productively viewed through the prism of the theoretical provisions of art therapy, which has such differences from other methods as resourcefulness, metaphorical, and triplicity, and the advantages of enhancing creative potential, universality, softness, and the absence of restrictions in application, non-verbalism, insight-orientation, breadth of possibilities for self-expression and selfknowledge. But the theory of art therapy lacks a comparison of the use of theatricalization itself in the psychotherapeutic process with other modalities of work, kinds of art therapy. It was also found that there is not enough information for the practical use of theatrical and dramatic means, what are the specific difficulties, limitations, risks, warnings, traps. General obstacles, contraindications, limitations and risks of group psychotherapeutic work are considered. The specificity of the use of theatrical and dramatic means in the art therapy process is analyzed in two stages. First, the highly specific advantages associated with the very specificity of theater art and its disclosure in the context of art therapy are proposed and substantiated. Secondly, limitations and risks are formulated due to the chosen modality of work and arising from the same properties of theatrical and dramatic art that contribute to the efficiency and environmental friendliness of its use. As a result, on the basis of the analysis, the following advantages of the use of theatrical and dramatic means in art therapy are identified as initially playful character, imagery, lifelikeness and complexity. Based on the consideration of the characteristics of these strengths, the psychotherapeutic risks of superficiality, hyperidentification, interweaving of contexts and stupor, as well as specific difficulties of group dynamics, are revealed. In each of the types of risk, the essence of restrictions on the use of theatricalizations and dramatizations in the art therapy process is shown and ways of their prevention are outlined.
