Abstract

The article discusses criteria for identifying modal particles in Ukrainian, German, Hungarian and corpus selection methods. The author explores the methodological foundations of analyzing the functional specifics of modal particles in fictional discourse. The comprehensive methodology of modal particle analysis is based on the conceptual apparatus of Relevance Theory. The author adopts a cognitive pragmatics perspective for analyzing the functions of modal particles with a view to identifying types of situational context and contextual effects generated by modal particles.
