Abstract

The article considers the state of online teaching of history students during the quarantine period of 2020, which has been introduced in Ukraine due to the coronavirus pandemic. The main provisions of the article are based on the analysis of the new Regulation on Students’ Distance Learning of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the study of this problem conducted by the Department of Social Education of the Institute of Pedagogy of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine,which was based on the results of interviews. The main issues of online learning of history students in the period March-May 2020 were studied: readiness of teachers and students, strengths and weaknesses, organizational and technical problems of online learning, used services and communication channels, methodological support, etc. The difference between online training during the quarantine period and the actual distance learning, defined by the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine was considered. The article studies the ways to enhance the effectiveness of distance learning in such key areas as regulatory, personnel, software and technical support of distance learning, development of conceptual foundations of such learning, preparation of teachers for organizing and conducting distance learning, its content, evaluation of student’s learning outcomes online. Emphasis is placed on the need to mobilize the efforts of scientific and methodological institutions and subjects of professional development of teachers in preparing teachers for distance learning and development of guidelines and manuals for organizing and conducting distance learning in secondary education in Ukraine. Some provisions of the article are illustrated with statistics, diagrams and tables.
