Abstract
The article emphasizes the relevance and importance of the usage of scientific heritage in geography for students in a comprehensive school, which is a component of cartographic sources. The authors of publications, in which cartographic heritage is regarded as the property of geographical science, are mentioned in the article. It is claimed that in the process of teaching geography at school, this work is not sufficiently involved in the programs, content and illustrative apparatus of the textbooks. Its volume is larger than previously presented in atlases, but it isn’t actively used by teachers in the educational process, as some appropriate methodical haven’t t been developed yet. The analysis of Ukrainian and foreign dictionaries was conducted to clarify the term "scientific heritage". We proposed our own definition of the concept of "scientific heritage". We emphasize on geographical maps of past times, their structure and ways of presenting information as an underestimated potential for activating cognitive activity. The results of the survey among geography teachers about possibility of using the map as an element of scientific heritage (on the example of Tutkovsky’s map of Ukraine) in the process of comparison with modern maps are presented, and an algorithm for their usage in geography lessons is developed. The classical schemes of designing school maps are described, the main scientific and methodological concept of school cartographic works is established, the requirements for the creation of a map are made. The stages of carrying out an experiment to check the efficiency of work of own algorithm with old and modern maps are described. The results of the experimental research on the basis of the general educational institutions of Kyiv are presented, the proposals and prospects of further researches are put forward.
