Abstract

The article raises a topical and promising problem - the formation of primary school pupils' ability to predict in the process of reading. The optimal preconditions for the formation of predictive reading skills, their essential characteristics in primary school age are substantiated. In the context of the analysis of recent research on the problem, the basic concepts are substantiated: anticipation, prediction, probable prediction, verbal prediction, semantic prediction, predictive skills; their essence, specifics of application in various kinds of reading activity of pupils are disclosed. The main content of the article is devoted to the analysis of Typical Curriculum for primary school, modern textbooks for reading for pupils of the 2nd-3rd grades from the point of view of reflecting the expected learning outcomes of pupils, as well as the completeness of curriculum requirements for the predictive reading skills of primary school pupils. The textbooks that were the most popular after the competition of textbooks and received full state funding were the subject of study. The study of the textbooks potential for the formation of predictive reading skills of pupils was carried out in the context of the implementation of technologies for gradual processing of the content of the text (at the stages of pre-text, text and post-text activities), as well as dialogic interaction of a pupil with the text and its author. These technologies are correctly correlated with the processes of predictive reading. During the analysis of the textbooks the character, completeness, frequency of the tasks which were in the field of view of the curriculum requirements, and provided the process of formation in pupils of the predictive reading skills are studied; the correlation of presentation of exercises and tasks of predictive character at different stages of perception of the content of texts is revealed. In the same context, the problem points are substantiated, as well as the advantages that, in our opinion, distinguish the analyzed textbooks.
