Abstract

The article discusses a formation of civic competence of lyceum students by means of teaching history of Ukraine. The author addresses an importance of high school in this process, which significantly expands students’ knowledge of the subject and of socio-historical life, human rights, contributes to formation of student’s human civic position. It is in high school that student’s willingness is actively formed to defend one’s rights, rights of other people, to build their individual and collective activity. The author clarifies the potential of the History of Ukraine in formation of civic competence of lyceum students, taking into account specific content of their educational and cognitive activities. The article suggests modern forms and methods of forming civic competence of young individuals, emphasising on improvement of approaches in using different learning models, etc. Based on a concept of key competencies, the author comes to conclusion that civic competence can be formed in all its components in Ukrainian history lessons. The implementation of civic education tasks during Ukrainian history lessons is based on improvement of curricula, textbooks, manuals which provide for an opportunity of civic competence formation. Methods of forming civic competence of students in history lessons of Ukraine include references in the content of teaching civics and systematic mastering and perception by high school students, teacher’s attention to the formation of civic skills of students as a separate task of the educational process, mandatory systematic use of interactive learning technologies, student in training.
