Abstract

The educational system of Ukraine has accepted the challenge of a distance learning during COVID-19 quarantine period as well as many countries in the world. The attitude of respondents regarding the effectiveness of distance learning is rather ambiguous, as well as the determination of the problems that arise and the ways of their solving. The article presents the results of the survey "Challenges of Distance Learning" conducted by the Institute of the Gifted Child of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine from 25.05.2020 to 10.08.2020. The public opinion was studied on the problems of the effectiveness of the implementation of distance learning in Ukrainian educational institutions in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The main purpose of the questionnaire was to determine the features of distance learning, to identify its disadvantages and advantages for individual participants of the educational process and to form proposals for further improvement of the educational process in distance learning. According to the majority of respondents experience, approximately 75 % of pupils and students joined distance learning, however, according to respondents, it is ineffective in secondary and primary schools. The respondents identified the importance of real workload for students and teachers, differentiation of learning, combination of synchronous and asynchronous learning, provision of working materials for self-study. At the same time, the platforms for e-learning organization appeared to be the most effective tools (71,3 % of respondents evaluated them in “4 and 5” points, out of 5 possible). It was noted that in Ukraine there are a lot of online resources for the development of cognitive interests and intellectual abilities of students. Regarding future integration processes in education, the majority of respondents forecast: the beginning of the formation of a new type of integrated individual educational system (44 %); partial enrichment of formal education with elements of distance education (39 %); enrichment of formal education with elements of nonformal education in distance mode (17 %).
