Abstract

The researches’ analysis devoted to the essence of the intelligence clarification shows the ability conceptions’ dominance. Researchers overwhelmingly place the individual abilities as the basis of intelligence. Therefore, in order to get deeper into the essence of intelligence, it is necessary to find out in detail the studies’ of human abilities results, including intellectual ones. The article analyzes the main results of this psychic phenomenon study. First of all, Teplov’s results are presented, which show that abilities should be considered as individual properties, which are the key to effective activity, distinguish individuals from each other and are not limited to the individual's knowledge, skills and habits. The results of the analysis show that abilities are a condition for successful activity and are developed in the process of the same activity. Abilities affect the formation of skills and are developed against the background of the individual's skills. Abilities are related to interest and inclination for a particular activity and are developed under the influence of these two factors. At the same time, this interaction is not without its contradictions, when the ability to activity does not correspond to the interest or inclination to it. In addition, it is stated that a set of related abilities is required for successful activity. At the same time, if there is a lack of ability, its substitute enters the game. Abilities are developed against the background of other abilities. Genetic and pedagogical factors are crucial in the abilities development. The first determines the limit to which the development of ability can be approached. The second determines the possibility of approaching this limit. The inclinations are innate anatomical and physiological features of the individual. Notwithstanding the article, there is a lack of answers to many questions, the main one is: what are abilities at the physiological level?
