Abstract

In the article, the author analyzes the scientific work of Guy Lefrancois “Psychology for Teaching”. The author draws the reader's attention to the introduction of profile education of students in academic and professional lyceums, which provides in-depth intellectual development of students in the context of socio-economic world progress. In Ukraine, the number of secondary education institutions (lyceums) is increasing every year, where students are expected to receive intellectual development according to their abilities and interests. Therefore, experts dealing with the problem of education of gifted children, believe that the mass school does not provide sufficient opportunities to fulfill the function of development of such children, because the traditional education system is characterized by a certain formalism and backwardness. We believe that it is necessary to focus on the study of the problem of cognitive development of intellectual talent as an attribute of intelligence, as an apparatus of intelligent personality behavior. The author describes the rationale behind some concepts that make it possible to understand more deeply the use of scientific concepts related to students' intellectual gifting. These are the concepts of “cognitive psychology”, “cognitive style”, “cognition”, “intelligence” and the like. These problems were thoroughly investigated by J. Piaget. His main achievement is his definition of personal development, namely: human development is the process of its adaptation. A higher form of adaptation is cognition. The article deals with the eight psychological stages of the idea of cognitive development developed by E. Erickson. The author then introduces the sociocultural cognitive theory of the development of the eminent scientist L. Vygotsky, who believed that culture is a powerful tool in the cognitive development of a child. In his view, learning and perception are defined as acts of information processing that reflect our need to simplify and understand the environment.
