Abstract

For decades in the scientific world, they use the term “giftedness”, diagnose it, identify gifted individuals without reaching agreement on the essence of this psychic phenomenon. On the one hand, the giftedness is associated with the breadth of the individual’s abilities. On the other hand, giftedness is spoken of when faced with a high level of ability. On the one hand, gifted are called those who achieve great success in the academic field. On the other hand, the gifted are expected to have special professional achievements. On the one hand, giftedness is associated with birth makings. On the other hand, gifted are those who show great ability at an early age. When it comes to the types of giftedness, there is no ambiguity here. Some authors are trying to convince us that there is a general giftedness. Others completely deny it. Some authors distinguish some types of giftedness, others – completely different types. Some authors adhere to the idea of a limited number of giftedness types, while others associate a specific giftedness type with each activity. There is no less uncertainty in the justification of the connection between giftedness and talent. And all of this described chaos has been going on for more than a decade, with at least two compelling reasons: the branding of the term “giftedness” and the complexity of this psychic phenomenon, which does not allow it to be reduced to a limited number of specific mental properties.
