Abstract
The article is devoted to the analysis of the philosophical aspects of determining the methodology of the historical research of the sphere of education. The concept of scientific fact, historical fact, methodological conditions for defining scientific facts, and specifics of defining historical facts are analyzed. Revealed the fundamental importance for determining the concept of research, in particular the historical concept for establishing facts. The bias in the implementation of scientific research has been determined, which arises if in the research, in order to please certain value requests, they begin to distort, limit or even eliminate the requirements for the scientific validity of the research itself and its results. The role of philosophy in developing counterfactual positions in cognition in general and cognition in the field of education, in particular, is revealed. Philosophy of education contributes to the success of creating a research program of the history of education, but it is also critically dependent on the latter in assessing historical events. A specific task of the philosophy of education, which remains not only inaccessible, but also forbidden for the history of education, is the establishment of counterfactual concepts for the creation of a new type of education: what has not yet existed is beyond the competence of history.
