Abstract

The purpose of the study is to develop a theoretical model of social and psychological support for veteran’s re-adaptation in the context of hybrid war and peace. There are represented dynamics of post-traumatic conditions and adaptability of two veterans in the case study format. The results of these veterans were investigated after they have completed the rehabilitation phase of recovery. The factors of influence re-traumatization on their personality in the conditions of hybrid war and peace are stated. Continued shelling and deaths of Ukrainian the military and civilians in the east and pro-Russian sentiment of some Ukrainian citizens were identified as external social factors. With regard to psychological factors, an internal conflict of the sub-personalities of the "enemy" and "defender", the inadequate social behaviour, are indicated. The necessity of social and psychological support of the re-adaptation of veterans and their families to neutralize and eliminate the destructive effect of these factors is outlined. It have been identified the motivations for veterans' supportive care, such as helping their colleges, strengthening the psyche, improving family relationships, and providing quality of life for the family and country. Theoretical model of support of veteran’s re-adaptation is developed. The expediency of using the principles of team creation and technology of peer-to-peer interaction in the re-adaptation process is demonstrated. A team of specialists and veterans participating in the re-adaptation program is identified as the central element of the model. Its peripheral elements include a network of public and state organizations working in the field of medical, social and psychological support for veterans. There are public veteran’s and volunteer’s organization which are working in the regions. Among the governmental organizations are the departments of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, military hospitals and social centres for the family, children and youth, employment centres, territorial centres of social service and other. There are distinguished such units of the model structure: rehabilitation and preventive, social and professional adaptation, research and information. The rehabilitation unit should protect veterans from re-traumatization, addiction and suicidal behaviour in the face of hybrid war and peace in Ukraine. The social and professional adaptation unit aims to assist veterans in finding jobs and obtaining the necessary professional qualifications. The research unit should ensure the effectiveness of the implementation of the support, monitor the results obtained, and optimize the feedback between the main structural elements of the psychosocial support and the system as a whole. The information structure should provide the necessary information to the users and specialists of the centre regarding the exchange of experience of the attendants. It should also inform potential users, partner organizations, other community members about the challenges and benefits of supporting veterans. Further studies will need to investigate the effectiveness of the model developed, the conditions and means of its dissemination in the regions of Ukraine.
